Alfred Crisp, timber merchant and Mayor of Hobart, built this Victorian villa on a Glebe hilltop in the 1870s. The land goes back further still, to a convict-run vegetable farm, and the original servants' quarters remain intact and available to guests. Five generations on, Alfred's great-great-grandson Julian and his wife Chaxi now run the property, with antiques sourced across several continents and a Tasmanian-stocked honesty bar in the Drawing Room. The National Trust awarded it a Merit in 1995. Chaxi also runs Spanish cooking lessons on site, which tells you something about the kind of hosts these are.
