Potential New Boyfriend occupies 647 Haywood Rd in West Asheville and resists easy categorization: it functions simultaneously as a dessert bar, a natural wine bar, and a listening room where the public record playing is considered part of the offering rather than atmospheric filler. The concept was developed by founder Disco, who previously ran Gospel Artisanal Ice Cream as a farmers market pop-up before translating that ethos into a permanent brick-and-mortar format. The food program centers on plated desserts and sundaes built around house-made ice cream, with a menu that rotates seasonally.

Desserts are the work of chef Dana Amromin, who also co-owns Butter Punk. The kitchen leans into sundaes, composed dessert plates, and pints to take home rather than a savory dinner format, which gives the venue a clear identity and keeps the focus tight. The wine list prioritizes natural and aromatic wines alongside vermouths, aperitifs, and dessert wines, with a curated non-alcoholic selection running parallel.

Coffee is also on the menu. The overall beverage program is designed to complement rather than compete with the dessert-forward kitchen, sweet, herbaceous, and ferment-forward bottles work better here than structured reds. The hi-fi listening component is core to how the space operates.

Vinyl is played with intention, and the room is configured to support that. West Asheville's Haywood Road corridor has developed a concentration of independent food and drink venues over the past decade, and Potential New Boyfriend occupies a distinct position within it, an evening destination built around the specific combination of sugar, natural wine, and sound.
