About

Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction (165th)

The Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction is Burgundy’s legendary charity wine sale – the world’s oldest and most famous of its kind. Each year on the third Sunday of November in Beaune, France, barrels of the new vintage from the Hospices’ vineyards are auctioned to international buyers, with proceeds funding the local hospital and charities.

Often dubbed a pinnacle event in the wine calendar, the Hospices de Beaune auction is the grand finale of Burgundy’s Trois Glorieuses weekend. Over 50 cuvées of the new Burgundy harvest – reds and whites from the Hospices’ own vineyards – are offered in barrel lots (Pièces) to an audience of négociants, collectors, and philanthropists. Bidding is spirited (now conducted by Sotheby’s): prices often set records, especially for the celebrated Pièce des Présidents, a special barrel auctioned with pomp to benefit designated charities. Winning bidders secure future bottles of exceptional Burgundy while supporting medical care and historic preservation.
