The Woodspeen is just outside Newbury in Berkshire (the Vineyard at Stockcross is a near neighbor), in an old country pub, brought into the 21st century with a modern extension, open kitchen, cookery school and kitchen garden. Executive chef Peter Eaton oversees the entire culinary operation, sometimes teaching, sometimes working on classically minded dishes like chargrilled beef fillet, beef cheek fritter, smoked cheese agnolotti and red wine sauce, or tronçon of turbot with crab macaroni cheese, shellfish bisque and caviar. The award-winning wine list majors in France, Italy and California.
