Fat Cat Wine Club

Fat Cat Wine Club began as a backyard pop-up before founder Kevin Tang moved the operation into a brick-and-mortar space on Mission Street in Bernal Heights. The wine program is organized around producers and regions that receive little mainstream shelf space, a deliberate curatorial position that shapes the list from the ground up rather than as an afterthought. The venue is explicitly queer-focused, functioning as both a neighborhood wine bar and a community event space.

That dual identity as bar and Third Place event venue is built into the physical layout and programming, not grafted on. Wine spritzes and beer sit alongside a focused bottle selection, keeping the offer accessible without abandoning its point of view on what deserves attention. Food on-site comes from Mantis, a modern Vietnamese concept that shares the 3215 Mission St address.

The two operations run in close proximity, with Mantis providing kitchen output to complement Fat Cat's beverage program. The pairing of a Vietnamese-inflected menu with a wine list weighted toward underrepresented regions gives the combined space a coherence that more formulaic wine bar-restaurant hybrids rarely achieve.
