Drappier

Urville puts Champagne’s Côte des Bar close to the vineyards and cellars that shape the wine. Drappier’s Carte d’Or, created by André and Micheline Drappier in 1952, is the familiar yellow-label introduction. The house’s cellar work gives the visit more depth than the label alone.

Low-temperature fermentation in the cellar

Drappier says it carries out the prise de mousse, the second fermentation that creates Champagne’s bubbles, slowly at low temperature. The house links that method to fine effervescence. Oak foudres hold some of its reserve and vintage wines, adding another subject for a cellar visit.

Cellar tour, tasting, or seasonal picnic

Drappier lists a reserved cellar tour at 2:30 p.m. followed by a tasting, and a tasting-only option. Its separate gourmet picnic, offered from April through October, adds local products and a bottle of Champagne for two to the cellar visit and tasting. The food and bottle are part of the picnic rather than the standard tour. The house publishes Monday-to-Saturday opening hours and closes on Sundays and public holidays; reserve the specific format before making the trip to Urville.
