I Vigneri di Salvo Foti is a traditional Etna winery in Milo, built around Salvo Foti and his family's revival of the old Maestranza dei Vigneri culture. The estate focuses on native volcanic varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante, Grecanico and Alicante, with appointment-led visits and a natural, human-scale approach to wine.
I Vigneri di Salvo Foti is one of the clearest expressions of the old Etna wine culture: palmento, native vines, volcanic parcels and hand-led cellar work rather than a polished tasting-room concept. The project takes its name from the historic Maestranza dei Vigneri and keeps the human labor of vineyard work at the center of the wine.
The Milo base places the winery on Etna's eastern side, with Carricante for whites and Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for reds. Research on the row classifies the production philosophy as natural, with still red, white, rose, skin-contact and amphora styles represented.
Visits are best treated as appointment-only, cellar-focused tastings rather than casual drop-ins. Expect the conversation to center on volcanic soils, old vines, native grapes and Salvo Foti's family-led interpretation of Etna DOC.
