West Oakland's Wood Street corridor has long operated on its own terms, and 10th & Wood fit that pattern: a neighborhood café at 945 Wood St running a low-cost, high-personality menu that drew from American diner tradition and the Bay Area's deep Vietnamese food culture in equal measure. The house specialty, the "Po MI," made the crossover explicit, a sandwich built on the architecture of a Po'Boy but finished with pickled daikon, carrot, jalapeño, cilantro, and cucumber in the manner of a bánh mì. Ranked 265th out of 1,342 Oakland restaurants on Tripadvisor at the time of listing, 10th & Wood occupied a specific niche: the kind of place that serves a working neighborhood rather than destination diners, where the menu reflects the community's actual demographic mix rather than a curated concept. In a city where West Oakland's food scene has historically been underrepresented in editorial coverage relative to Temescal or Rockridge, that positioning carries its own weight.
