The BEAM by Nick Alvis
Set in the corner of Le Royal Méridien is The Beam by Nick Alvis, shining brightly amid the lush beachfront gardens. The restaurant takes over the space that previously held longstanding seafood restaurant Geales, and it’s had a revamp to include a dedicated wine bar, Blush. Being at a popular resort, it’s an attractive spot for a range of diners – from in-house guests to families after a special meal out – thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and airy décor. Coming from acclaimed chef Nick Alvis (one half of the much-loved folly by Nick and Scott duo), everything on the menu is carefully considered and precisely plated. In the kitchen executive chef Bojan Cirjanic (also formerly of folly) adds his expert touch, while mention also goes to restaurant manager Milo Dawson, who welcomes and engages diners. Focusing on British-European plates, The Beam serves accessible food executed to a high level. Ingredients are sourced locally where possible, and attention is placed on quality produce. Tunworth cheese croquettes are simple yet polished thanks to the strength of the cheese, the crisp of the crumb and the sweet tang of the accompanying fig compôte. An incarnation of folly’s famed crispy hen’s egg also makes an appearance – this time adorning an earthy, rich artichoke and truffle risotto. The cheese trolley is another highlight. The wine list is also noteworthy and more affordable than many places – including that of Blush next door – which has more than 100 varieties by the glass thanks to the Coravin system. Moving into its second year in 2026, The Beam has certainly made a bright start.
