Closing night at Pier Sixty

Founded in 2014 by sommelier Daniel Johnnes and Champagne writer Peter Liem, La Fête du Champagne brings houses, grower estates and wine lovers together through tastings and dinners. The 2026 New York program runs October 14 to 17. The gala is its final event, gathering guests at Pier Sixty for the closing dinner.

Champagne accompanies the meal, with time to explore different bottles over several courses. The four chefs will collaborate on a menu designed for the wines. Attending producers contribute special bottles, while guests add wines they have chosen from their own collections.

If you usually drink Champagne as an aperitif, use the dinner to taste it across several courses. Different grapes, ages and winemaking approaches can produce markedly different textures, and several styles with food give you a relaxed way to compare them.

Pier Sixty is at Chelsea Piers on Manhattan’s West Side. The Grand Tasting takes place there earlier that day, though the two events have separate admission, so book both only if you want the tasting and the seated dinner.

The photographs show the 2025 New York gala. Wines and dishes vary each year, so treat the images as a sense of the room rather than a promise of specific pours or plates.

Wines to expect: Chablis reception and Champagne at dinner

The evening opens with a reception featuring Chablis from Domaine William Fèvre. Chablis is a still Chardonnay wine from northern Burgundy, offering a different expression of a grape that also plays a major role in Champagne before guests sit down to dinner.

Champagne from attending producers will accompany the meal, together with the wines guests bring. Guest bottles are an additional part of the gala’s BYOB tradition.

Come ready to taste broadly rather than chase a fixed list. A familiar producer might appear in an older vintage or a different format; a shared bottle might introduce a grower you have never tried. No particular guest bottle is guaranteed.

The BYOB cellar-bottle tradition

Guests are invited to bring Champagne from their own cellars to share throughout the room. Choose a bottle you would enjoy discussing as well as pouring, whether it is a carefully aged vintage, a large format or a grower wine you are eager for others to discover.

An older vintage, a large format or a bottle brought home from Champagne could each be a thoughtful choice. These are examples of what guests might bring, rather than promised pours. The wines will reflect the people attending, which is part of what makes the evening personal.

If you are deciding what to bring, choose a bottle whose story you will enjoy sharing as much as the wine itself. A guest may have followed a producer for years, tasted the same wine when it was young or saved it for an occasion like this.

You do not need to assemble a flight: the dinner includes wines from attending producers, and other guests will bring their own selections. Protect your bottle from heat during travel and follow the event team’s instructions for service.

Contact the organizers in advance if you plan to bring a large format or an older bottle that needs particular care.
