Courthézon, France
Courthézon has 15 wineries in our guide, with a scene centred on Châteauneuf-du-Pape, family estates and Grenache-led wines. Most venues are in Courthézon, while Domaine Berthet-Rayne works in Chapouin / Coudoulet terroirs and Le Jas des Papes is in Les Saumades. Organic farming, old vines and estate-grown fruit feature across the estates. Domaine de la Janasse makes Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines from rolled pebbles, red clay and sandy limestone. The wines extend across several southern Rhône appellations. Crous St Martin produces Côtes du Rhône, Cairanne, Rasteau, Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Cellier des Princes is the only Châteauneuf-du-Pape cooperative cellar and has a large tasting and retail room. Domaine des Saumades makes a Grenache-led red and a white from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Domaine Saint-Laurent, in Courthézon countryside (La Tamardière / Chemin de Saint-Laurent), combines Rhône crus, Côtes-du-Rhône and IGP wines with olive oil production.

Core Courthézon wine estates

These are three Courthézon estates, each with a different way of working the southern Rhône.

  • Domaine de la Janasse

A family-owned estate in Courthézon making Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines from rolled pebbles, red clay and sandy limestone. The estate has been producing wine since its first vintage in 1973, with a Grenache-driven style.

  • Cellier des Princes

The only Châteauneuf-du-Pape cooperative cellar in Courthézon, with a large tasting and retail room. Around 116 to 120 growers farm more than 600 hectares, and the range centres on Grenache-led Southern Rhône wines.

  • Domaine des Saumades

A small Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate in Courthézon, founded in 1995 and built around just two organic cuvées, a Grenache-led red and a rare white. Its appeal is terroir precision, with sandy Pignan parcels and cellar work that favours older barrels over oak display.

Countryside and named terroirs

These picks sit in named Courthézon areas, showing how the wine scene reaches into specific terroirs and countryside parcels.

  • Domaine Berthet-Rayne

An organic, family-run estate in the Chapouin / Coudoulet terroirs, working Châteauneuf-du-Pape and nearby Southern Rhône appellations from clay-limestone soils with rolled pebbles. It uses estate-grown fruit, a rustic cellar setting and a mix of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault.

  • Domaine Saint-Laurent

A five-generation Sinard family estate in the Courthézon countryside, between Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Vacqueyras. It combines high-environmental-value viticulture, Rhône crus, Côtes-du-Rhône and IGP wines with olive oil production and an on-site museum of old vine and cellar tools, plus a Falstaff Winery - Listed (2026) award.

  • Le Jas des Papes

A modern organic estate in Les Saumades with vineyard-led hospitality and guided sensory tastings in French and English. It is a limited-production Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer with AB-certified organic farming since the 2017 vintage, plus recent recognition for Jas des Papes Rouge 2022.
