Bar Bet
Deep wine list
Bar Bet earned a White Star listing on Star Wine List in April 2025, placing it among Utrecht's wine-serious venues at a moment when the city's drinking scene has grown sharply more sophisticated. Located on Wed in the city centre, it operates where a considered wine list and the food that supports it matter as much as the room. For anyone tracking where Utrecht's bar culture is heading, Bar Bet is a useful data point.
BROEI
On Utrecht's Oosterkade, BROEI occupies a stretch of the city's canal-facing east bank where industrial heritage and neighbourhood dining overlap. The address places it within reach of Utrecht's broader creative dining scene, which runs from canal-level bistros to the high-end tasting menus at Karel 5 and Maeve. Check current opening details directly before visiting.
Concours
Concours holds a Michelin Plate across consecutive years (2024 and 2025), placing it in Utrecht's serious modern cuisine tier at a €€€ price point. Located on Biltstraat in the city's east, it draws, a consistency signal that matters in a city where the dining scene is consolidating around a handful of credible addresses. Spring months see the sharpest demand.
De Goedheyd
On Hamburgerstraat in Utrecht's medieval centre, De Goedheyd occupies a space that sits apart from the city's busier dining corridors. Utrecht's restaurant scene has matured considerably around venues like Maeve and Karel 5, and De Goedheyd contributes its own register to that mix, worth seeking out for those already tracking the city's quieter dining addresses.
Feu
Feu occupies a waterside address on Veilinghavenkade in Utrecht, drawing a crowd that gravitates toward fire-driven cooking in a city still refining its fine-casual credentials. The venue sits outside Utrecht's historic centre, which shapes both its atmosphere and its audience. For context on how it fits the broader Utrecht dining scene, the EP Club guide covers the full range of options across the city.
Heimat
Wine Spectator Award of Excellence
On a nondescript stretch of Biltstraat, Heimat makes the case that Utrecht's most serious plant-forward cooking doesn't require a prestigious address. Chef Niels van Zijl, trained at De Librije and Kadeau, runs a fully seasonal menu earning four Radishes from the We're Smart Green Guide and a 2025 Michelin Plate. The wine list spans 320 selections across 1,525 inventory items, with sommelier Bas Janssen steering pairings.
Hemel & Aarde
Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence
Housed within Hotel The Nox on Keistraat, Hemel & Aarde holds a Michelin Plate and a White Star from Star Wine List, pairing Chef Rene van der Weijden's vegetable-forward modern French cooking with a wine list of 525 selections across 4,250 bottles. The kitchen follows the We're Smart Think Vegetables! Think Fruit! philosophy, with a chef's signature vegetable dish anchoring each service. Lunch and dinner are both served.
Héron
Héron holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand (2025) and a place in the We're Smart Green Guide, signalling where Utrecht's plant-forward dining sits today. Chef Josephien Blom's menu is built around hyper-local sourcing, fermentation, and zero-waste principles at an accessible €€ price point. The restaurant occupies Schalkwijkstraat 28 and draws a committed following without the formality of the city's higher-tier tables.
Karel 5
1 Michelin star
A Michelin-starred restaurant inside a medieval complex at the edge of Utrecht's old city, Karel 5 pairs a chandelier-lit dining room and garden terrace with a produce-driven creative menu that rotates every three months. Chef Leon Mazairac sources game from the Veluwe and saffron from Herentals, building menus around vegetable-forward themes without sacrificing classical technique. A complete plant-based version of the tasting menu is available on request.
Kasvio
Kasvio occupies a converted factory-church on Wittevrouwenstraat, serving a fully vegan menu rooted in Nordic culinary memory rather than substitution cooking. The 30-seat dining room, guided by Finnish chef-owner Mari Pitkänen, rotates its menu every two to two and a half months. Each dish arrives with an accompanying poem and detailed staff explanation, making the format as much about storytelling as it is about the plate.
Le Jardin
Le Jardin on Mariaplaats occupies a rare position in Utrecht's dining scene: a Michelin Plate-recognised restaurant (2024, 2025) where vegetables lead every dish, not as a default for non-meat-eaters but as a considered culinary framework. The kitchen follows an 80/20 vegetable-forward ratio, with organic and seasonal produce at its core, housed inside a space that doubles as hotel and florist.
Maeve
1 Michelin star · Deep wine list
Maeve holds a Michelin star on Utrecht's historic Kromme Nieuwegracht canal, where chef Tommy Janssen builds a vegetable-forward creative French tasting menu around seasonal, locally sourced produce. Acidic brightness, precise temperatures, and confident use of fermentation techniques like miso and koji distinguish the kitchen's approach. The wine list leans into Dutch and Belgian labels, and the cellar is visible from the dining room.
Pand 33
On Nieuwegracht, Utrecht's most characterful canal street, Pand 33 occupies a historic pand, a Dutch canal-house form that frames dining in a way few modern builds can replicate. The address places it within walking distance of the city's densest concentration of serious restaurants, making it a natural reference point for anyone mapping Utrecht's mid-to-upper dining tier.
Restaurant 273
Restaurant 273 holds a Michelin Plate for 2024 and 2025, placing it among Utrecht's more consistent Oudegracht addresses at the €€€ tier. The international menu positions it between the city's classic brasseries and its most ambitious creative kitchens, making it a reliable reference point for visitors mapping Utrecht's mid-to-upper dining range..
Restaurant de Watertoren
Set inside a converted water tower at Heuveloord 25a, Restaurant de Watertoren brings an architectural drama that few Utrecht dining rooms can match. Its recognition on Star Wine List, earning a White Star in November 2024, signals a wine program taken seriously, not assembled as an afterthought. For visitors working through Utrecht's restaurant scene, it occupies a distinct position: a setting with genuine character and a cellar list built for the table.
Restaurant Fico
Restaurant Fico sits on Veilinghavenkade in Utrecht's post-industrial waterfront, positioning itself within the city's emerging fine-dining corridor. Recognised by Star Wine List with a White Star designation in April 2024, the restaurant draws notice for its wine program. It occupies a different tier from the city's French-leaning mid-range operators, making it a reference point for wine-focused dining in Utrecht.
Roemer
Deep wine list
Roemer occupies a quietly considered position in Utrecht's dining scene, at Berlijnplein 2 in the western district. With sparse formal credentials on record, it sits in a mid-tier bracket where the city's appetite for neighbourhood-rooted restaurants is strongest. For a fuller picture of what surrounds it, EP Club's Utrecht guide maps the wider field.
Sumventure
Sumventure occupies a address on Willem van Noortstraat in Utrecht's residential belt, operating in a city where the dining scene has quietly grown more ambitious over the past decade. With options ranging from the creative tasting menus at Karel 5 to neighbourhood bistros with loyal local followings, Utrecht rewards those who look beyond the canal-side terraces. Sumventure sits within that broader pattern of locally anchored dining worth tracking.
The Madras Diaries
Among Utrecht's more distinctive South Indian addresses, The Madras Diaries at Brusselplein 11 sits apart from the city's French-leaning fine dining tier occupied by venues like Maeve and Karel 5. The kitchen draws on the culinary traditions of Tamil Nadu, where spice sequencing and rice-based courses shape a meal's arc in ways that differ fundamentally from European tasting formats. For visitors looking beyond the canal-side staples, it represents a deliberate detour.
