A RAF pilot built the early-1900s “bungalow” and now leading Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte has turned it into a six-room retreat that retains the wood paneling and crystal chandelier from the colonial past but infuses it with Sri Lankan soul.Views from the property, which set in the middle of a 252-acre tea estate, extend to miles, over broad lawns and out to Castlereagh Reservoir. Stays are all-inclusive, with signature dishes including hoppers (fermented pancakes) with sour fish curry and an eggs benedict variation with seeni sambol and turmeric hollandaise.
