Cuvée Pietra Trentodoc Debuts in New York and New Jersey

From vineyards between 1,200 and 1,800 feet, Alpine Chardonnay now has a new address in the U.S. market: San Leonardo’s 2021 Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga ‘Cuvée Pietra’ Trentodoc Blanc de Blancs made its U.S. debut on May 12, 2026 through VIAS Imports, with distribution in New York and New Jersey and an SRP of $52.

If you collect Italian Metodo Classico, start with the essentials: this is a Trentino Blanc de Blancs from Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga, the estate’s dedicated sparkling-wine label, with 36 months on lees. It brings San Leonardo into the American conversation beyond its acclaimed Bordeaux-style reds and into bottle-fermented Chardonnay.

The draw is provenance. Cuvée Pietra gives you a historic Trentino name, a clear grape variety, defined altitude, mountain terroir, and a lees-aging program you can assess in the glass.

San Leonardo Brings Cuvée Pietra Trentodoc to the U.S.

San Leonardo, the Guerrieri Gonzaga family estate in Trentino, stands behind Cuvée Pietra. Marchese Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga leads the property, which is housed in a historic monastery founded more than a thousand years ago and has been the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family for the last 300 years.

The estate spans 740 acres, including 74 acres of vineyards. White grape varieties account for 37 acres in the northernmost part of Trentino, between Val di Cembra and the Avisano hills.

For buyers, the useful cue is context: Cuvée Pietra comes from an estate already known for Bordeaux-style reds and Gambero Rosso recognition, now applied to Trentodoc. If San Leonardo is already on your radar for cellar-worthy reds, this release gives you the sparkling-wine side of the same estate to track.

Why San Leonardo Is Pouring Blanc de Blancs

“Cuvée Pietra is a tribute to the mountains of Trentino and to the distinctive conditions that shape these wines,” Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga says. “With this project, we sought to translate the elegance and identity of our land into a sparkling, enjoyable and consumable expression!”

The cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in high-altitude vineyards between 1,200 and 1,800 feet above sea level. Alpine conditions and volcanic soils shape a profile built around floral aromatics, pronounced acidity, freshness, and mineral drive.

If you want the wine’s point of difference, look to the mountain Chardonnay: San Leonardo is framing Trentodoc through altitude, acidity, and volcanic soil rather than through estate name alone. Choose it when you want a Blanc de Blancs whose freshness and mineral drive come from Trentino’s mountain conditions.

Pressano, the Cembra Valley, and Mountain Chardonnay

North of Trento, the vineyards sit in Pressano and the Cembra Valley. Their soils include porphyritic formations, red marls, sandy loams, and medium-textured soils, shaped by glacial morainic deposits from volcanic formations and the surrounding Dolomites.

Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, then vinified to preserve freshness and structure. The 2021 vintage was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel before secondary fermentation in bottle, followed by 36 months on the lees.

In the glass, the technical story points you toward freshness, structure, and mineral drive: controlled primary fermentation, bottle fermentation, and extended lees contact all serve that fresh, mountain-grown Blanc de Blancs frame. Those details are the ones to note on a list or shelf talker.

Where to Find Cuvée Pietra in the U.S.

New York and New Jersey are the confirmed U.S. distribution markets through VIAS Imports. Cuvée Pietra is also available online, giving American buyers a route beyond the two-state rollout.

For Italian-wine programs, the placement is useful. Reach for it when you want a Trentino Metodo Classico from a historic estate, with vineyard altitude, soil detail, and cellar method clearly stated.

What the $52 Release Offers Buyers

At an SRP of $52, the wine asks to be judged on more than mousse. Its case rests on origin, élevage, and producer credibility: mountain vineyards supply tension, lees aging adds texture, and the Guerrieri Gonzaga name gives the bottle fine-wine context.

Collectors and sommeliers should read the 2021 as the baseline vintage for San Leonardo’s sparkling chapter in the United States, defined by Chardonnay, Trentodoc, and a precise technical frame. If you are comparing Italian Metodo Classico options around this release, start with the origin, 36 months on lees, and the $52 SRP.

What to Watch as Cuvée Pietra Enters the Market

San Leonardo has been certified as a “Friend of Biodiversity” since 2018 and achieved “Equalitas” certification in 2024 for environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Those certifications sit beside Cuvée Pietra’s emphasis on freshness, harmony, artisanal winemaking, and Trentino identity. If you know San Leonardo through its reds, this is the Trentodoc from the same estate to follow next.
