While in some places, local craft beer production managed to liven up the situation, on Hiiumaa, in the country’s western archipelago, not even that helped. Should you happen find yourself on this island between October and April, know that there’s only one place that offers good food. Linnumäe is a small farmhouse, right at the edge of Hiiumaa’s capital, Kärdla, it serves simple, homey food, mostly grilled or smoked and made with local produce.
The menu features chicken, pork and whatever fish and vegetables are in season. Visiting Hiiumaa when the island is “hibernating” is a great experience, particularly if you stop by Linnumäe for a humble, honest meal.
