Prelude

In music, a prelude is a brief preface to a longer work. Prelude vinotheque is certainly suitable for popping in before––or after––a dinner somewhere else. But first and foremost, it’s a restaurant in its own right, a good place to settle in for a full meal or a leisurely wine-tasting session.

The snug dining area is decorated with upcycled furniture, owner Ülle Kiirend might as well live here. She’s always around, putting a personal touch on things and taking care of her guests; and if she isn’t, she’s most likely abroad, scouting for new wines bring home. There’s no doubt about it, you won’t find a better or more interesting wine selection on Saaremaa.

Estonia’s most famous island rarely hears reproaches; but if we were to nitpick, we'd have to admit that the restaurants here tend to serve awfully similar wines. Prelude definitely sticks out from the rest. Make sure to ask about the daily special as there are always little extras on offer.

The regular menu is a prime example of islanders’ simple everyday fare, with fresh oysters on rotation and sparkling wine, of course! Prelude never disappoints.
