About

The name of the café (that isn’t merely a café) will perplex those who aren’t familiar with Estonian quirks. The confusion harkens back to the time before Estonian re-independence, when everything was strictly graded and categorized; restaurants were the highest (and leading) category of food establishments; one notch down were the cafés serving coffee, pastries, and simple lunches; last came canteens with their purely practical bent. Even now, some eateries don’t dare call themselves restaurants for fear of sending the wrong message. Mosaiik, facing Kuressaare’s main square, defies categorizing and hits the bullseye, this is indeed a real mosaic.

What it isn’t, is a simple café. Mosaiik is a stylish, casual dining restaurant. Do grab a coffee, by all means, it’s excellent. Just please stay for their eclectic selection of food and drinks, the menu is an exquisitely rich, colorful jumble.

Singling out a single dish or libation would do the others wrong. Mosaiik welcomes you at any time of the day, no matter what you’re in the mood for, and settling in with a simple cup of coffee won’t seem strange to those eating their way through the entire scintillating mosaic.
